Land for Sale

Posted in Marketing on 01.01.10

I had been traveling through the Midwest of the US when I came across a small piece of land that had a land for sale by owner sign.  I stopped to look around as I was hoping to find something nice to build a house on for my new family.  The land was spacious and had a small river to the right.  Some gentle hills were in the background about ten miles back.  The land looked perfect and I couldn't figure out why anyone would be selling it.

I called the number of the land for sale sign and spoke with an elderly woman who informed me that her husband had passes recently and she was trying to raise some money to pay off his medical expenses that he had incurred before he passed.  I asked her how much she wanted for the property.  When she told me how much she wanted, I was shocked.  Surely, the land was worth more than that.

I told her I would call her back and then made some local inquiries to find out if something was wrong with the property.  I had the deed checked and found no liens against the property.  I spoke with the local sheriff to see if he could add anything to the situation.  No one could give me any reason why the land or property would be a bad buy.

I called the elderly woman back and told her I would love to take her offer, but that I couldn't accept her price.  She didn't say anything for a moment and then she dropped the price ten thousand dollars.  I told her she didn't understand; her price was too low.  I then made a more reasonable and higher offer.  She cried and accepted.  I then found out that she was only asking for what she needed to pay off the bills.

I felt good about my purchase and was so happy to take down the Buildings for Sale

and land for sale sign on my new property.
